PHP 5 is ultra cool

2004-07-16 13:36 - Programming

By occupation I am (mostly) a web application developer. My platform of choice is Linux running Apache, MySQL, and PHP. (In truth, I really prefer PostgreSQL but at work I get MySQL.) Anyway, PHP version 5 has recently been released, and it looks like it's a big step forward.

Unfortunately my server at home is out of commission thanks to a bad hard drive (the warranty replacement came today actually and is sitting beside me). Then, at work, rather business critical applications are running on both the web servers I am in charge of, and I can't just go upgrading to this new very different version of PHP, so I am totally itching to try it out. Even more so after I read an article titled Why PHP 5 Rocks! I can't wait to try it out!

You may use Markdown syntax in the comment, but no HTML. Hints:

  • An empty line between text will create a paragraph boundary.
  • Use angle braces around a plain URL to auto-link it: <http://www.example.com/>.
  • Use this format to create a link with different text showing: [An Example](http://www.example.com/).
  • Use backticks (``), not leading spaces to enclose a code block.

If you are attempting to contact me, ask me a question, etc, please send me a message through the contact form rather than posting a comment here. Thank you. (If you post a comment anyway when it should be a message to me, I'll probably just delete your comment. I don't like clutter.)
